Dr. Olav Alvares received his dental degree from the University of Bombay, an MS in Periodontics from the Univ. of Detroit,and a PhD in Pathology from the Univ. of Illinois, Chicago. He also received training in Oral Pathology and is a fellow of the Amer. Acad. Oral Pathology. He has been a recipient of NIH-NIDCR Research Career Development Award ( U. Wash.), Post-Doctoral Fellowship ( U. of Copenhagen), Special Fellowship (UTHSCSA) and Principal Investigator on grants and contracts between 1974-1995. He has 90 published book chapters, articles and abstracts. Over the years,and at various Institutions, he has taught in Oral Histology, Oral Pathology, Nutrition and Periodontics. At the national level, he has served on committees of the National Academy Sciences, IADR, AADR, and NIH-NIDCR. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Critical Reviews Oral Biology and Medicine (publisher-IADR) and Journal Dental Education ( publisher-ADEA).
