Dr. Thomas Oates is an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Oates received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania and received his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biophysics from the Medical College of Virginia/ Virginia Commonwealth University. His research efforts have included clinical trials in implantology, the use of BMPs in maxillary sinus grafting, and investigations of the associations between oral health and systemic disease.
